Externship Description

HireBrain is excited to welcome a highly motivated University of Chicago STEM trainee to join our team as an extern focusing on Research and Product Development. The primary goal of this project is to investigate and analyze existing academic research relevant to HireBrain’s mission of applying neuroscience, social science, and behavioral economics to enhance hiring processes and mitigating bias in recruitment. During the course of the externship, our extern will conduct a thorough literature review and then learn how to generate a business analysis on how best to apply the scholarly insights to future product applications, features, and enhancements on the HireBrain platform.

Primary Activities

Depending on alignment with skills/interests, the extern will work on one or more of the following projects:

  • Comprehensive Literature Review: Develop a detailed literature review summarizing key findings, methodologies, and insights from relevant academic studies in neuroscience, behavioral economics, psychology, and related fields.
  • Research Gap Analysis: Identify gaps in existing research that could inform future strategies and support the development of tools for HireBrain.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Provide actionable recommendations for applying scholarly insights to enhance HireBrain’s current products and services, suggesting new features and improvements based on the literature review.
  • Benchmarking Best Practices: Benchmark best practices in the application of neuroscience and behavioral economics in corporate environments for change management, providing a comparative analysis to highlight competitive advantages and areas for improvement for HireBrain.
  • Implementation Roadmap: Work with key executives to develop an implementation roadmap outlining the steps and timelines required to apply research insights to HireBrain’s product development, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals and resources.
  • Systematic Academic Review: Conduct a thorough and systematic review of academic publications, including peer-reviewed articles, books, white papers, and conference proceedings related to the intersection of neuroscience, behavioral economics, and hiring practices.
  • Insight Synthesis: Synthesize complex research findings into concise, actionable insights that align with HireBrain’s objectives and values, proposing specific applications to enhance the platform.
  • Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate with the HireBrain team to integrate research findings into the development of new tools and resources for hiring managers, providing strategic insights for product development.
  • Engaging Presentations: Present key findings, business analysis, and recommendations to the team clearly and engagingly, emphasizing practical applications for product innovation.

Qualifications

  • Current PhD candidate at the University of Chicago (or equivalent program) in a relevant discipline such as neuroscience, behavioral economics, psychology, organizational behavior, or a related field.
  • Strong research background with experience in conducting literature reviews and synthesizing complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey academic and/or technical concepts to non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Motivation to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring practices through evidence-based approaches, incorporating research findings into actionable product innovations.
