Lincoln Park Capital is an investment firm located in downtown Chicago that funds companies around the world. Most of LPC’s activity is in the life sciences sector, where the firm focuses on both publicly traded clinical-stage companies and early stage private companies. Our team merges over 100 combined years of experience structuring public and private investments with interdisciplinary scientific expertise. In keeping with our focus on the life sciences market, members of our firm are experts in computer science, neuroscience, molecular biology and biochemistry, developmental and stem cell biology, and genetics.

Internship Description

Interns will conduct independent equity research to evaluate each target company’s likelihood of commercializing their technology, participate in weekly progress meetings at LPC’s River North offices, interface with biotech company leadership in person or by phone, and present a final summary of their analytic work to the firm’s managing members. Due diligence output will include slide decks outlining an investment thesis, written and oral preparation for interactions with target company management, and an oral final presentation.

Qualifications

  • Advanced-stage doctoral candidate or postdoctoral scholar in biology, chemistry, medicine, statistics, or computer science. Expertise in bioinformatics, bioengineering, or systems biology is preferred.
  • Candidates will have a strong interest in applying scientific knowledge to investing and business.
  • Able to commit ~10 hours per week for five weeks on independent research, phone calls, and in-person meetings
  • Able to attend a weekly meeting at downtown headquarters (440 N. Wells Street)
  • Interns should be comfortable working independently and have excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
  • *NOTE: This is a pilot internship and will last only 5 weeks, starting at the beginning of Spring Quarter 2018.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Collect and interpret information from a variety of sources, including company websites, presentations, SEC filings, patents, and scientific literature.
  • Quickly understand the existing commercial market, trajectory, and competitive landscape of designated therapeutic areas.
  • Generate company-specific due diligence slide decks that argue for or against investment and provide concise supporting evidence
