About Rhaeos

Rhaeos, Inc. is a clinical stage, venture backed medical device startup company developing wireless wearable and non-invasive sensors for a number of healthcare applications. The UI/UX Extern will work as part of the Research and Product Development teams to design, develop, build, and deploy user-facing software experiences and interfaces which work with Rhaeos wearable devices and accessory products. The UI/UX Extern will contribute to new and existing products and work with internal and external software development partners. Rhaeos is located in Chicago and Evanston, IL and is led by an experienced medical device team.

By externing at Rhaeos, Inc. you will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative space within the medical device start-up. Here you will be creating an elegant user-friendly interface that will improve patient experience and present key findings of device functions. If you have an eye for precise and minimalist design and the sensitivity to create a compelling interface to improve patient interactions, we want you as our UI/UX product designer.

Externship Description

As a UI/UX Extern at Rhaeos, Inc., you will contribute to defining the user experience of our first remote patient monitoring, home wearable sensing system for helping hydrocephalus patients and their physicians manage their condition. You will help design a user friendly interface that presents useful information to patients, in conjunction with the overall design of the wearable sensing experience. In the duration of your externship, you will be working closely with the Product, Clinical and R&D Teams. You will work in person at our facility located in Evanston, Illinois. Remote work is also allowable, at times, upon management approval. You will receive written and oral performances at the end of your externship.


Objectives

  • Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, customer feedback, and usability findings.
  • Build empathy and understanding with the users in order to improve patient experience.
  • Develop wireframes for mobile and web application interfaces.
  • Develop storyboards for overall patient and physician experience and empathy mapping.
  • Contribute to design of overall usability and information delivery of the product experience.


Qualifications

Baseline Skills, Experiences & Attributes:

  • Currently a Master or PhD degree student at University of Chicago
  • Has experience in UI/UX
  • Experience in software UI wireframe creation
  • Experience in storyboarding and communicating user-product interactions
  • Experience in working with software developers to support implementation of your design concepts
  • Interest in UI/UX and medical device technology
  • Good interpersonal communication
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comfortable with Figma
  • Comfortable with Miro, Notion or similar collaboration software
  • Demonstration of a UX/UI project
